Let’s face it. The past few years have been pretty lame.. AND pretty tame. In a time of censorship, sensitivity, and an overall lack of attitude, no genre has suffered more in my opinion than rock and roll. Who is the biggest rock and roll band of 2021? Greta Van Fleet? IMAGINE DRAGONS? Please. Give me real rock and roll. Well, when we needed him most, dawning his signature red satin jumpsuit, our Detroit born and raised, Devil without a cause savior Kid Rock, along with newcomers Monster Truck, pulled through for us with the most ROCKIN’ single of the year. “Don’t Tell Me How To Live”.
The song starts with a simple, yet high throttle guitar riff that really gets the juices flowing. Along with the hook sang by Mr. Monster Truck himself “Ain’t nooooooobody gonna tell me how to liiiiive!” Off to a great start.
The song starts with a strong message to all the snowflakes;
“Fuck all you hoes!
Detroit 'til I die, motherfucker!
Talkin' all that bullshit!” Let’s go.
Lyrically, Rock is back to his late 90’s roots, rapping with attitude and vigor. The flow is timeless, and with lyrics like;
“Bucka bucka, you ain't never met a motherfuckеr like this
Kiss my ass, then you can suck a dick”
And “A nation of pussies is our next generation!
And these minions and their agendas
Every opinion has a millennial offended”
you can really feel the message he is trying to get across. Freedom. And I’m absolutely behind it. We need artists like Kid Rock and Monster Truck, to keep liberal whiners in check. During the bridge, Mr. Monster Truck sings that he will soar like an eagle, truly bringing it home. This is what we needed.
Not to be overshadowed by such a great song, the coupled music video hits just as hard. Chock full of flames, bar fights, motorcycles, guns, fast cars, fur coats, and Rock himself eventually flying a giant rocket shaped like a middle finger over Mount Rushmore and into space. A true “Eff you” to anyone against Kid Rock’s opinions. Incredible.
Overall, this song was a tough one, because 10 squats out of 10 isn’t enough. This song is so much more. It’s a hundred rebel flags. It’s a thousand bald Eagles. It’s millions of rounds of ammunition in your favorite assault rifle. Well done Rock. Well done.
***this may actually be the worst song of 2021**
