ALF Week: Day 5- Alles, Paradiso!

So yesterday I mentioned that the only theme park experience that featured ALF was in Germany. This is probably because ALF was something close to a God in Germany due to the show's popularity over there. Along with the success of the show, the voice actor who provided the voice of Alf in the German dub, Tommi Piper, also quickly rose to stardom. Piper has a giant list of credits of dubbing work, way too many to name here, so here's a link to them which I recommend checking out:  Tommi Piper's Credits .  In 1989, Tommi Piper would provide more than just Alf's speaking voice with the release of the album "Alles, Paradiso!" in which of course German Alf sings a collection of original songs. The album was produced by Anthony Monn who has over over 200 production credits and nearly 600 writing credit, all of which where I largely don't recognize anything. This particular album features Alf singing over Schalger-esque music accompaniments and according to the ...

ALF Week: Day 4- What If...?

Wow I sure did have a great time doing nothing but watching ALF yesterday. I hope you all did as well. Yesterday I was thinking... what if ALF ended up being purchased by Disney back when the show was just an idea? I'm not saying it would of been better or worse for the show and if isn't obvious I'm very satisfied with the show that ended up happening. But what if in 1986 the show ended up in the hands of, at the time Disney CEO, Michael Eisner? Now for a little bit of background on Eisner. After Walt Disney died in 1966 the company spent nearly 20 years trying not to be taken over by other companies. The main philosophy that people followed when trying to come up with any ideas was "What would Walt do?' Of course, none of these people were Walt Disney... not even his older brother, Roy, who died shortly after completely the stressful task that was opening Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. Things were pretty rough with the company until in 1984 when Eisner was ...

ALF Week: Day 3- Today is the Day

So today is officially the 35th anniversary of ALF. It feels really good to be alive for it. On 8:00 PM Monday September 22, 1986 ALF aired on NBC while battling the first hour of MacGyver which was on ABC at the same time. The number one hit song was Stuck with You by Huey Lewis and the News. The first Crocodile Dundee was coming out that Friday. Tully Blanchard was facing off against Dusty Rhodes at the Memorial Auditorium in Greenville, South Carolina. It was a beautiful time.  Honestly this day was the one I couldn't think of anything to post and because of how momentous this day truly is... it was a bit overwhelming to come up with something. So I think I'm just going to unwind and put on some ALF to celebrate.

ALF Week: Day 2- It's All in the Titles

Another magical element to the show ALF was that each episode title was also the name of a song. For example, Season 2 Episode 23 is called "I'm Your Puppet" and it's about Alf trying out ventriloquism. "I'm Your Puppet" is also a song by James & Bobby Purify and it's about being horny.  So I thought it'd be a fun idea to take some other songs and turn them into episodes with a description of what the plot might have been.      "Breed" Nirvana's "Nevermind" is celebrating it's own anniversary this week as well. On Friday the album will have been out for 30 years coming out a year after ALF had ended. So since the show never got to make any quips about the band I figured I'd name a fake episode after one of my favorite songs by them. In "Breed" Alf garners an interest in horse racing. After losing many bets he decides he'll breed his own perfect race horse and steals the two best horses from ...

ALF Week: Day 1- The Many Faces of ALf

This Wednesday, September 22nd, will be the 35th anniversary of the sitcom ALF so this week we'll be celebrating the show and the Melmacian himself. If you've somehow have never seen ALF before it's about an alien named Gordon Shumway crash landing at the home of the Tanner family after his home planet, Melmac, was destroyed due to nuclear war. The Tanner's give him the name Alf because of the acronym A.L.F... alien life form GET IT!? So yeah Alf lives with them and is kind of an asshole sometimes but the Tanners still care for him even if it's frustrating to harbor an extraterrestrial in your home... but they all love each other and it's nice. Anyways I'm sure even if you haven't seen the show you know who Alf is and have probably seen him in some sort of cameo, commercial, or even in POG form. The Alf character was created by Paul Fusco who had this "alien-looking" puppet (I believe from Bob Fappiano) and would first use the puppet to en...

Garrett's Squat Tunes Reviews #1: Donda

Garrett's dream in life is to become a music critic so with this new reoccurring series of posts I will allow that dream to come true. Garrett's Squat Tunes Reviews will consist of his full review of an album, his favorite and least favorite track, and a final Squat Score to see if it's a full rep at 12 squats or not worth squat at 0. Earlier I texted him to review this album because it was new and I wasn't sure what it was and asked him all the required questions that needed to be answered for this to be a true Garrett's Squat Tunes Review so I'll be copy and pasting his texts verbatim. So here's his first entry: the tenth album by Mr. Kanye West titled Donda.  The Review     " Kanye is finally rapping again. I thought the album was his best in like a decade. Almost no skips on a two hour long album. Might be rap album of the year."     Very little to be said about the album despite it being a rap album of the year contender in his opinion. ...
