Weekender Fun Part 3

The band did a little weekend thing recently in Sumter and Charleston. What did I eat? How did the shows go? Who drove with who? What else did I eat? I used the bathroom where?!? All of these things will be answered in this poorly written blog posts. Friday April 14th I picked up the Coach in a Walmart parking lot that afternoon. He just got done working out with his plethora of clients and I could tell he still feel "the pump" as he likes to call it. A lot of sweating and talking through gritted teeth as we made our way to Coverage in Sumter. On the way there we did consider cancelling our involvement in the show to partake in the activities at the Pudding Festival in Turbeville, SC. But we are men of honor. I can't remember ever going to Sumter for any reason besides to a military base with my grandparents as a child. I definitely wasn't aware of any music scene in the town either. But we arrived at the location which was in a residential area across the street fro...

Weekender Fun Part 2

Same deal as the first one... although this is probably not as noteworthy.  Friday April 22nd Alright so it was Conor, Garrett, and I in the same vehicle and Devin driving separately with all of our crap plus another party member. We were once again going to the world famous Reggie's 42nd Street Tavern in Wilmington, NC. I think I ate two chicken sandwiches on the way there. Also we stopped at a Circle K and someone (surprisingly not myself I suppose) had defecated all over a toilet. Looked pretty bad but I can say just by looking at it that I've been through worse. We arrived at Reggie's. The Mongerz played. They were a two piece. They played some Green Day songs. Their original songs had a lot of guitar solos. Then we played. Then Hyperloops played. They played Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult. Their original songs had a lot of guitar solos too. Then Busted Radio played. The guitar player and singer fella looks like Keith Urban and Tom DeLonge mixed together in a human mixin...

Weekender Fun

Yo yo yo. Just got back from a weekend of great shows with our pals in Pnltybx and Lunchbox Hero. I can home smelling so so bad my god. I'll try to recount this weekend's events to the best of my abilities. Also if you haven't figured out who writes a majority of these things... it's me Andrew so this will mainly be my perspective and also I already put very low effort in editing any of these posts so this will be no different. Imagine this is just a very long text from your ol' pal Andy Dandy.  Friday April 8th I arrived at Garrett's house starving. I have this very unhealthy habit of not eating all day and then feasting in the evening so I arrived at the coach's house already agitated. Fortunately I was riding with Conor so my stress levels were to be kept super low and the other two dopes drove around with all of our stuff. We were headed to Wilmington, North Carolina to the famous Reggie's 42nd Street Tavern. I'd been at this venue several years ...

The Reel World with Devin #3: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)

Hollywood just doesn’t stop! Cranking out shit that is! Remakes, remakes, remakes disguised as sequels, sequels disguised as remakes, and so on. I just watched the newest attempt (that’s what we’ll call it) of the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre available on Netflix. And you better believe my expectations were low.  I've only seen the first two of these movies from the 70s. I know there’s at least 10 of them at this point. Pretty sure the first two are among the only ones worth watching, but I could be mistaken. In this 2022-ized version, a group of influencers (this word makes me want to barf every time I read it, let alone type it) decide to drive their Tesla into the ghost town of Harlow Texas so they can transform it into a trendy gentrified hellhole for them and a bus full of their social media buddies. Awful, right? I’m just getting started. There are four main characters but the two that survive most of this movie are Melody and Lila. They're sisters and Melody wants to be...

Garrett’s Squat Tunes Review #2- Kid Rock ft. Monster Truck “Don’t Tell Me How To Live”

Let’s face it. The past few years have been pretty lame.. AND pretty tame. In a time of censorship, sensitivity, and an overall lack of attitude, no genre has suffered more in my opinion than rock and roll. Who is the biggest rock and roll band of 2021? Greta Van Fleet? IMAGINE DRAGONS? Please. Give me real rock and roll. Well, when we needed him most, dawning his signature red satin jumpsuit, our Detroit born and raised, Devil without a cause savior Kid Rock, along with newcomers Monster Truck, pulled through for us with the most ROCKIN’ single of the year. “Don’t Tell Me How To Live”.  The song starts with a simple, yet high throttle guitar riff that really gets the juices flowing. Along with the hook sang by Mr. Monster Truck himself “Ain’t nooooooobody gonna tell me how to liiiiive!” Off to a great start. The song starts with a strong message to all the snowflakes; “Fuck all you hoes! Detroit 'til I die, motherfucker! Talkin' all that bullshit!” Let’s go. Lyrically, Rock is...

The Reel World with Devin #1: Halloween Kills (SPOILERS)

Howdy. Welcome to The Reel World with Devin: a series of posts that are movie reviews written by Devin. Today he talks about the new horror flick "Halloween Kills" directed by David Gordon Green. Also please be aware that there are SPOILERS . I even put it in bold. I recently went to the movie theater with some of my friends to watch the new Halloween movie. As a fan of the other Halloween movies and of horror movies in general, I was pretty excited to see this one. But to be honest, I think they shoulda named it “Halloween Blows”   The 2018 Halloween I enjoyed a lot! Danny McBride and David Gordon Green did a great job for a movie that really didn’t need to be made, so I thought this one would be fine as well. Also as a fan of McBride and Green I was even more excited after recently watching through both Eastbound and Down and Vice Principals. But I left the theater perplexed and kinda mad that I spent money to watch it. My friends I saw it with felt the same way. I wonder h...

ALF Week: Day 5- Alles, Paradiso!

So yesterday I mentioned that the only theme park experience that featured ALF was in Germany. This is probably because ALF was something close to a God in Germany due to the show's popularity over there. Along with the success of the show, the voice actor who provided the voice of Alf in the German dub, Tommi Piper, also quickly rose to stardom. Piper has a giant list of credits of dubbing work, way too many to name here, so here's a link to them which I recommend checking out:  Tommi Piper's Credits .  In 1989, Tommi Piper would provide more than just Alf's speaking voice with the release of the album "Alles, Paradiso!" in which of course German Alf sings a collection of original songs. The album was produced by Anthony Monn who has over over 200 production credits and nearly 600 writing credit, all of which where I largely don't recognize anything. This particular album features Alf singing over Schalger-esque music accompaniments and according to the ...

ALF Week: Day 4- What If...?

Wow I sure did have a great time doing nothing but watching ALF yesterday. I hope you all did as well. Yesterday I was thinking... what if ALF ended up being purchased by Disney back when the show was just an idea? I'm not saying it would of been better or worse for the show and if isn't obvious I'm very satisfied with the show that ended up happening. But what if in 1986 the show ended up in the hands of, at the time Disney CEO, Michael Eisner? Now for a little bit of background on Eisner. After Walt Disney died in 1966 the company spent nearly 20 years trying not to be taken over by other companies. The main philosophy that people followed when trying to come up with any ideas was "What would Walt do?' Of course, none of these people were Walt Disney... not even his older brother, Roy, who died shortly after completely the stressful task that was opening Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. Things were pretty rough with the company until in 1984 when Eisner was ...

ALF Week: Day 3- Today is the Day

So today is officially the 35th anniversary of ALF. It feels really good to be alive for it. On 8:00 PM Monday September 22, 1986 ALF aired on NBC while battling the first hour of MacGyver which was on ABC at the same time. The number one hit song was Stuck with You by Huey Lewis and the News. The first Crocodile Dundee was coming out that Friday. Tully Blanchard was facing off against Dusty Rhodes at the Memorial Auditorium in Greenville, South Carolina. It was a beautiful time.  Honestly this day was the one I couldn't think of anything to post and because of how momentous this day truly is... it was a bit overwhelming to come up with something. So I think I'm just going to unwind and put on some ALF to celebrate.

ALF Week: Day 2- It's All in the Titles

Another magical element to the show ALF was that each episode title was also the name of a song. For example, Season 2 Episode 23 is called "I'm Your Puppet" and it's about Alf trying out ventriloquism. "I'm Your Puppet" is also a song by James & Bobby Purify and it's about being horny.  So I thought it'd be a fun idea to take some other songs and turn them into episodes with a description of what the plot might have been.      "Breed" Nirvana's "Nevermind" is celebrating it's own anniversary this week as well. On Friday the album will have been out for 30 years coming out a year after ALF had ended. So since the show never got to make any quips about the band I figured I'd name a fake episode after one of my favorite songs by them. In "Breed" Alf garners an interest in horse racing. After losing many bets he decides he'll breed his own perfect race horse and steals the two best horses from ...

ALF Week: Day 1- The Many Faces of ALf

This Wednesday, September 22nd, will be the 35th anniversary of the sitcom ALF so this week we'll be celebrating the show and the Melmacian himself. If you've somehow have never seen ALF before it's about an alien named Gordon Shumway crash landing at the home of the Tanner family after his home planet, Melmac, was destroyed due to nuclear war. The Tanner's give him the name Alf because of the acronym A.L.F... alien life form GET IT!? So yeah Alf lives with them and is kind of an asshole sometimes but the Tanners still care for him even if it's frustrating to harbor an extraterrestrial in your home... but they all love each other and it's nice. Anyways I'm sure even if you haven't seen the show you know who Alf is and have probably seen him in some sort of cameo, commercial, or even in POG form. The Alf character was created by Paul Fusco who had this "alien-looking" puppet (I believe from Bob Fappiano) and would first use the puppet to en...

Garrett's Squat Tunes Reviews #1: Donda

Garrett's dream in life is to become a music critic so with this new reoccurring series of posts I will allow that dream to come true. Garrett's Squat Tunes Reviews will consist of his full review of an album, his favorite and least favorite track, and a final Squat Score to see if it's a full rep at 12 squats or not worth squat at 0. Earlier I texted him to review this album because it was new and I wasn't sure what it was and asked him all the required questions that needed to be answered for this to be a true Garrett's Squat Tunes Review so I'll be copy and pasting his texts verbatim. So here's his first entry: the tenth album by Mr. Kanye West titled Donda.  The Review     " Kanye is finally rapping again. I thought the album was his best in like a decade. Almost no skips on a two hour long album. Might be rap album of the year."     Very little to be said about the album despite it being a rap album of the year contender in his opinion. ...

Techiniculty

I've had a few issues with my laptop recently so I hadn't really thought about writing any new posts recently even though I've only successfully posted one (1). I did write some in the notes app on my phone and I will be posting those because it is very very good content.            Today I gave some thought on what I would like to do for a vacation even though that won't be until January. One idea was to go to Wisconsin because I don't think I've been there and I'd like to see what the deal is. When I googled "things to do in Wisconsin" I was shown several waterparks that will unfortunately be closed during the month of January... however there are a lot of museums including the Harley-Davidson Museum where you can learn about the hogs. I've never been on a motorcycle but I'm sure the staff at the Harley-Davidson Museum would welcome a sickle virgin such as I with open arms.           Perhaps I'll stay...

A Fierce Turd

I honestly just felt like typing a lot of things that no one will read. This blog will mainly be used for documenting things going on with Windley but I also won't be able to  resist the urge to write up a bunch of other crap. Anyways, the plan is to record soon. Several songs have been completely written while some are still missing key parts like... lyrics and endings. Sometimes I fair well with forcing the completion of a song but that's obviously not a healthy habit for anyone trying to write songs... unless you're a genius... which none of us are. I'm pretty satisfied with how these songs have fleshed out with the majority of them being made nearly three years ago and usually I'm the one who goes from being excited about a new tune to quickly thinking that a huge mistake has been created. A more specific part of the plan is to record this batch of songs ourselves in a storage unit. We're still preparing for that step and hopefully the headache...
